"Sweet Amelia"– A Song Capturing What Adoption Is Like

I can't get away from the hauntingly beautiful adoption song "Sweet Amelia." Singer/songwriter Sandra McCracken captures the intense emotions and longings of adoption, questions and fears, and most of all, the wait.......

Christy and I were privileged to attend the CD launch concert in Nashville, TN, for Sandra's album Desire Like Dynamite which contains "Sweet Amelia." Ironically, we were in Nashville for Summit 9, a gathering of global orphan advocates (see our report here). Sandra's song tells the story of Kevin and Wendy Twit's adoption, from the perspective of a letter Wendy wrote while waiting to go to China to meet their daughter and bring her home. Kevin spoke with us before the concert and told the story of their adoption.

This song and album are well worth listening to and adding to your music collection. The video above is an acoustic version, and the album includes an upbeat full-band version which portrays exactly how Christy and I feel about our precious little son whom we adopted in 2012.

Thank you, Sandra, for telling about adoption from a parent's perspective, and for helping the church to value and treasure children as God does.
