We attended informational meetings about both domestic and international adoption. We loved the thought of adopting internationally (and still do), however, for various reasons, we concluded that domestic adoption is the best route for our life situation right now.
Domestic adoption gives us the opportunity to serve a woman, possibly someone in our own community, who finds herself in an unplanned pregnancy and knows she is unable to offer financial and parental stability to her child. She will make the most difficult decision of her life–to spare her baby's life and offer the little one to be adopted into another family. We are grateful that our adoption agency offers counseling and healing to any birthparent who makes this sobering decision; please pray with us for the birthmom who will choose us.
Why is Adoption so Expensive? Many people have asked us why adoption costs so much. Adoption doesn't come easy and cheap, mainly for the safety of adopted children. Adoptive parents go through extensive interviews and background checks to make sure they are adequately able to care for a child. Other funds go towards running the adoption agency and providing counseling and medical care to birthmoms.
We Were Adopted Too!
Our adoption journey is reminding us of our own spiritual adoption. Our Heavenly Father lovingly chose us to become part of his family and now treats us as his son and daughter through the work of Christ. Romans 8 reminds us of this amazing reality: Now we call him, “Abba, Father.” For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children. And since we are his children, we are his heirs.
